Filmed during the summer of 2020, this 360° dance film reflects a moment in history when the world simultaneously confronts two pandemics: COVID-19 and systematic racism.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

KURT DOUGLAS (Choreographer)

Kurt Douglas joined the Boston Conservatory @ Berklee faculty in 2015 and is an associate professor of dance, specializing in technique, repertory, and pedagogy for modern dance. Douglas also serves as artistic director for Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Summer Dance Intensive (SDI). 

A graduate of New York’s LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and the Performing Arts and originally from Guyana, Douglas earned a B.F.A. in dance from Boston Conservatory and an M.F.A. in dance from Hollins University. After graduating from the Boston Conservatory in 2001, he joined the Limón Dance Company, where he performed in many of Limón’s most influential works. He received a 2002 Princess Grace Award and was honored by an invitation to perform for the royal family of Monaco. In 2007, Douglas became the first African American to portray Iago in The Moor's Pavane, José Limón's most famous work. Douglas was named one of Dance Magazine’s "Top 25 to Watch” in the January 2006 issue. He danced from 2002 to 2007 in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and joined Ballet Hispanico from 2005 to 2006 under the direction of Tina Ramirez. In 2009, he joined the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company during their 40th anniversary season, touring throughout the United States and Asia. In 2011, he began touring with the Tony Award-winning musical A Chorus Line throughout the United States, Japan, Singapore, and Australia. Guest artist credits include the Thang Dao Dance Company, Buglisi Dance Theatre, Dzul Dance, and the Sean Curran Dance Company.

INDIA HOBBS (Dancer)

Born and raised in the city of Chicago, India Hobbs started her dance training at a local dance studio (Dance Gallery Chicago), where she participated in classes like ballet, jazz, and hip hop. In 2012, Hobbs continued her dance training at The Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center where she studied ballet, pointe, Horton,  and contemporary under dance pioneer, Homer Bryant. Following her acceptance into the Chicago Academy for the Arts freshman class of 2017; Hobbs decided to dedicate four years to extensive training and discovery. During India’s time at The Academy, she trained in ballet, pointe, and graham. Also performing in works set by Brian Brooks, Jonathan E. Alsberry, Stephanie Martinez, Randy Duncan, and Preston Miller. Following her completion of high school, Ms. Hobbs began her college career at The Boston Conservatory as a contemporary dance major. At the Conservatory, Hobbs studies include ballet, Límon technique, release technique, graham, and various composition classes taught by proverbial professors such as Kurt Douglas, Brian McGinnis, Tai Jimenez, and Danielle Davidson. During her time at The Conservatory, India has performed works by Loni Landon, Catherine Coury, Martha Nichols, and a choreographic offering from Mark Morris. Ms. Hobbs has also attended summer programs at Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Kyle Abraham A.I.M, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and The Rock School Intensive. During her time at The Conservatory, India Hobbs continues to create and present work of her own while dedicating her last semester to more research and growth.

TY MORRISON (Dancer)

Emerging from the greater Boston area of Massachusetts, Tyeri Morrison dedicated 13 years of extensive dance training to The Gold School DanceArt; directed under Choreographer and Founder Rennie Gold. During this time, his passion for dance manifested through his participation in numerous styles ranging from ballet, Horton, musical theatre jazz, tap, hip hop, and African tribal dance. Learning under esteemed choreographers like Larry Souza, Billy Barry, and Kenny Warmald, he also performed in works set by Tyce Doricario, Teddy Forance, Chaz Buzan, and more. Following his high school completion, Ty attends The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, on full-tuition scholarship where he is pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, graduating in 2021.

SHAUN CLARKE (Director / Editor)

Shaun Clarke is a filmmaker based in Boston, MA. His dance films explore ways that movement can be transformed through the tools of the cinema.His work has screened at numerous film festivals nationally and internationally, and has been recognized and awarded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the University Film and Video Association, Mosesian Center for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Shaun received a B.F.A. from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and an M.F.A. from Emerson College. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Digital and Film Production at Emerson College.
